With the results of the U.S. elections emerging and the plans for China's next five-year plan released, we are assessing impact and potentials for German-Chinese economic relations. Join us for an outlook into the next year and beyond with Hendrik Barkeling, Head of the Economic Department, German Embassy.


Mr. Hendrik Barkeling has succeeded Dr. Robert Dieter as Head of the Economic Department, German Embassy Beijing since September 2020. From 2016 to 2020 he served as Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia. From 2012 to 2016 he worked in the United States, first as Communications Advisor for the Sustainable Development Network in the World Bank and later as Head of the Economic and Commercial Section at the German Embassy Washington. He was the Personal Assistant to German Federal President Horst Koehler and Deputy Director of his Personal Office. Mr. Barkeling joined the German Foreign Service in 2000. He studied History, Latin Philology and Law in Muenster, Germany and Salamanca, Spain and obtained a Master Degree.
